Nitte University Awards MPH Students of Minnesota, USA

Mangaluru, Jan 16, 2017: Public Health Students from University of Minnesota, USA, were in Mangaluru and Nitte to attend their first ever MPH student exchange program hosted by the Division of Public Health, K S Hegde Medical Academy, Mangaluru as a part of its Global Health Initiative.

This two-week long program focused on health system studies and women’s care in rural South India. The students were exposed intensively to various components of health care delivery systems from community to tertiary care in Government and private sectors such as sub centres, primary health centres, private health clinics and satellite health centres run by Nitte University. 

Programme also included exposure to Indian systems of Medicine, traditional healers, tribal hamlets of Siddhi and Koraga communities, Anganwadis, schools and Non-Governmental Organizations.  The two-week long program was a blend of education and recreation for the students of Minnesota where they got exposed to Traditional medicine and Yoga sessions.

The program was formally concluded in a reflection programme held on Friday, 13 January 2017 at University Enclave at Mangalore. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. S. Ramananda Shetty awarded the certificates of participation.  Senior officials and academicians of Nitte University were present during the occasion.

Dr. Sudeep Kumar, Head of Division of Public Health and Coordinator for Exchange Programme at Nitte University said MPH students from Nitte University will be visiting the University of Minnesota in the month of May-June every year to attend the summer school at Minneapolis and St. Paul in USA. This would be a high weightage benefit for MPH students of Nitte University to get exposed to Global Health Programme, Dr Kumar added.
