Mangaluru, Jan 22, 2015:  Nitte University Chancellor N. Vinay Hegde, on January 21, Wednesday  released   the logo and poster of the  upcoming  fourth Nitte Mangaluru Half Marathon & 10K -2015. The event aimed at promoting sports and fitness among youngsters will be  inaugurated at the Mangala Stadium in the city on February 22. Nitte University and Life is Calling are the organizers of the event.

In his address, Vinay Hegde,urged educational institutions to conduct programmes which develop an interest in sports among  students.

Dr Manjunath Bhandari, President of DK Athletics Association  informed that nearly 15000 runners  including  several  national and international athletes will be  part of the marathon. Sunil Kumar Shetty, Javelin throw record holder from Mysore University   and Arjuna award winning athlete Ashwini Nachappa will be the ambassadors of the event.

The event will be held in  different categories including half marathon for men and women, 10 km  run for men and women and five km run for college students. Apart from these there will be a  5 km run for high school boys and 3 km run for high school girls. Half marathon and 10 km run will consist of open category (16-45) and senior category (46 and above).

This year, additionally there will be a corporate run of five kms, Dr Bhandari informed and further added that  primary school boys and girls will also have a three km and two km run respectively. The special attraction of  this year’s “Nitte-Mangaluru Half Marathon” would be a ‘Nama Balipuga’ Run of five kms   in  open and non-competitive category .

Dr. M Rajshekar, Director- Curriculum Development of Nitte University, PB Mithra,Chief of Life is Calling and Sunil Kumar Shetty, Brand Ambassador of Nitte  Mangaluru Half Marathon were present on the dais.

Cash prizes to winners:
The top three winners in the 10 km open category will be awarded cash prize of Rs 20,000, Rs.17,000 and 14,000 respectively, while first ten place holders will also be entitled to cash prizes.  The first three winners in senior category will win cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 8000 and Rs 6000 respectively.  Cash prizes of Rs 5000, Rs 2500 and Rs 1500 will  be  awarded to the first three winners from DK (15 years and above).Cash prizes of Rs 8000, Rs 6000 and Rs 5000 will be  awarded to  winners  in 5 km run for college  students, while the winners in  5 km run for high school boys and 3 km run for girls will get Rs 6,000, Rs.5,000 and Rs.4,000 respectively. Cash prizes will be presented to first ten winners in this category.

Winners in 3 km run for primary school boys and 2 km run for primary school girls will get cash awards of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 respectively.
