Mangaluru, June 05 2019: In view of a student testing positive for the Nipah virus in Kerala, the Health Department here has issued a circular to all government and private hospitals in Dakshina Kannada to be alert and to intimate the Department in case any suspected Nipah case was detected.
The measure has been taken as a lot of people including students from Kerala travel to Dakshina Kannada daily.
The railway physicians too have been asked to be alert and conduct checks if any traveller is suffering from fever or other health issues.
It may be recalled here that the Nipah virus which spreads through bats and pigs had claimed 15 lives in Kerala last year.
Though the swab samples of two patients from the district were sent for tests at Pune laboratory last year, both were found negative.
