Ninth Global Konkani Music Awards function at Mandd Sobhann

Mangaluru, Dec 11, 2017 : The top  talents in Konkani music were awarded at the Ninth Global Konkani Music Awards instituted by Mandd Sobhann, on Dec 10, Sunday at a glittering evening at Kalaangann, Mangalore. Internationally acclaimed singer and actress,  Vasundhara Das presented the Awards to the winners.

And the winners of the 9 th Global Konkani Music Awards are :

1. Best Singer Female-2016: Shilpa Cutinha for the song –‘Tujya Dollyantuli’ from the album ‘O…La…Re…’.
2. Best Singer Male-2016: Robin John Paul Sequeira for the song –‘Tum Zay Mhaka’ from the album ‘O…La…Re…’.
3. Best Music Composer-2016: Nithin Koottungal (Cochin) for the song –‘Tum Geloy Sanddun’ from the album ‘O…La…Re…’.
4. Best Lyricist-2016: Lloyd Austin Rego (Taccode) for the song –‘Yo Vegim’ from the album ‘Mho’jya Moga’.
5. Best Music Arranger-2016: Roshan John D’Souza for the song –‘Tum Zay Mhaka’ from the album ‘O…La…Re…’.
6. Best Music Album-2016: O…La…Re… produced by Antony Stephen Cutinha (Sennon Productions).

Each award comprises of Rs. 25,000/- in cash, the coveted title and public honour.

Vasundhara Das said that she was happy to be invited as the Chief Guest to the Global Konkani Music Awards Evening and said that throughout the programme she witnessed the joy and beauty of Konkani music.

On this occasion, the 3 rd Global Konkani Music-Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed on Henry D’Souza, Mumbai, for his contribution to Konkani music. Henry D’Souza thanked Mandd Sobhann and the Konkani people for having chosen him to receive the greatest honour in Konkani music. Stany Alvares (Co-ordinator, Mandd Sobhann) read-out the citation and Sumell presented a medley of 5 popular songs of Henry D’Souza. The Award comprised of 1 lakh in cash, a citation and public honour. Eric Ozario (Gurkar, Mandd Sobhann), Louis J. Pinto (President, Mandd Sobhann), Roy Castelino (Pirjent, Kalaangann),Kishore Fernandez (Secretary, Mandd Sobhann) were present on stage. Vasundhara Das honoured him.

Lawry Travasso and his outstanding team of musicians enthralled the gathering with beautiful Goan music. Nach Sobhann and Nicky Pinto (of Dance Plus fame) presented scintillating dances. Blue Angels Choir presented a medley of songs from the Top-3 Music Albums nominated for the Awards. Mandd Sobhann declared the ‘Global Konkani Cine Awards’ to be presented once in 2 years, beginning
from the next year. It was also announced that henceforth, the Global Konkani Music Awards would also be presented every alternate year.

The programme, conducted by ace comperes Arun Raj Rodrigues and Amora Monteiro, was witnessed by a large crowd which included Konkani dignitaries from all around the globe.
