Nine fatalities, 308 test positve in DK

Mangaluru,  Sep 18, 2020:    The death toll and infection rate continue to surge with nine deaths and 308 persons testing positive for Covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday.

With nine deaths, the district’s total death toll stands at 461. So far 18,866 people in the district have tested positive for coronavirus.

On Thursday, 176 patients with symptoms of influenza-like illness (ILI) and nine patients with severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) tested positive for coronavirus. A whopping 101 patients have contracted the virus from primary contacts. The contacts of 22 Covid-19 positive patients are being traced and 223 patients, among the total cases, have symptoms of the virus.

Mangaluru taluk topped the list with 202 people testing positive. Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia and Belthangady taluks trailed behind with 37, 30, 10 and 24 Covid-19 positive cases. Five people from other districts also tested positive. As many as 398 recovered patients were discharged on Thursday.

All nine Covid-19 positive patients were also suffering from other co-morbidities, a press release from DC Dr K V Rajendra said.
