Mangaluru, June 26, 2016: A new railway station is coming at Kenjar, around 2 km away from the Mangaluru International Airport with an objective of facilitating passengers to and fro the airport and railway station. The railway station being constructed by Southern Railways is presently in the final stage of its completion.
The works of the platform, station building and signal laying are complete and once the railway lines are on track, the station will commence operations.
It was in the year 2012 that the then Railway Minister KH Muniappa had sought a feasibility report regarding the proposal to construct a railway station and works had commenced two years ago. Even the works of an approach road to the station are presently underway.
Meanwhile, a few local residents have already appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to name the new railway station as Pejawar Railway Station as it is coming up close to the original Pejawar Mutt at Kenjaru and the place is also generally known as Pejawar.
