New mother and child health unit at Udupi District Hospital

Mangaluru, Sep 12, 2015 :  In an interaction with the press on Sept 11, Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader said that   State government has proposed a  100-bed mother and child health unit at the Udupi District Hospital, the construction of the unit has been estimated at Rs. 13.75 crore.


New mother and child health unit at Udupi District HospitalConstruction of a new unit was among the works that will be taken up under funds allotted by the Union government under the National Health Mission. The Union Government’s  list of works are awaiting  approval. 

Minister Khader said that they are also taking up the construction of Community Health Centres (CHC) at Uppinangady, Kadaba and Kokkada in Dakshina Kannada which has been estimated at Rs. 5 crore for each CHC. .

Also construction of three primary health centres and four units for Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery in Dakshina Kannada. The department was taking up construction of a Taluk Health Centre in Karkala, two PHCs and four units of ANMs in Udupi district this year.

Lady Goschen Hospital  : Minister  Khader went on to say that  directions have been issued to the contractor of the new building of the Lady Goschen Hospital to keep ready in the next few days the ground floor of the new building. Women and children being treated in the old block will be moved to the new building.

The same contractor, he said, has been entrusted with building a new 60-bedded wing of the Hospital by partly bringing down the old block at a cost of Rs. 10.46 crore.
