Mangaluru, May 29, 2016:It is reported that the ’Aarogya Raksha Samiti of the Government Wenlock Hospital’  on May 28, Saturday delegated to the KMC, Kasturba Medical College to build a new building for the hospital on its premises.

At a meeting, DK DC Adoor.B. Ibrahim, who is the member secretary of the samiti, said that Manipal University Chancellor Ramdas Pai had assured of constructing a new building on a 50,000-sq. ft area in the Lady Goschen hospital by providing 75 per cent of clinical fees as advance.  An order was issued granting concession in the clinical fees for students doing clinical study in the Wenlock Hosptial.

While the concession in the clinical fees had continued, the KMC was yet to construct a new building. Instead of Lady Goschen Hospital, the new building could be constructed in the Wenlock Hospital.   If they were not willing, a letter would be sent to the State government to put on hold the concession, he said.

KMC, Kasturba Medical College Dean M. Venkatraya Prabhu said that the promise made in 2010 was not binding as a committee was not constituted immediately after the meeting for construction of the building.

There was no question of constructing a new building at the Lady Goschen Hospital as a new four-storeyed building was coming up on the premises. Dr. Prabhu said that the KMC had paid around Rs. 3 crore to the Wenlock Hospital. District In-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai said that the government order was clear on construction of the new building.  “We want you to build a new building at Wenlock. Let us know your response in a fortnight,” he said. The KMC should take it up as part of its corporate social responsibility, he added.
