New building at Lady Goschen to be ready by November-end

Mangaluru, June 05 2016: The new building of Lady Goschen Hospital Mangaluru that is in nearing completion will be dedicated for public use by end of November 2016, noted B Ramanath Rai, minister for forest, environment and ecology and district in-charge. Expressing satisfaction at the ongoing work during his visit to the work site on June 3,  Friday, Rai directed the contractor not to stop the work for demand of grants, and focus on completing the work as per schedule.

Dr Savitha, medical superintendent of the hospital informed Rai that tenders for Rs 18.4 crore have been invited out of Rs 21.70 crore provided by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd under its CSR and the remainder amount will be used for civil works. An additional amount of Rs 10 crore is needed for completing the building, Dr Savitha said. Rai assured that he will place a proposal before Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for release of this amount.

Till such time that the government allocates the additional fund sought, Rai suggested that Rs 8.93 crore available in the use fund of Wenlock Government District Hospital be kept as deposit in the arogya raksha samiti and work entrusted to D K Nirmithi Kendra by way of tender. Out of Rs 8.93 crore, Rs 2.30 crore is needed for electrification of exterior of the building, Rs 1.20 crore for high voltage air-conditioning of the rooms, Rs 1.50 crore for medical gas pipe line.

In addition, Rs 36 lakh is needed for  esentials,  Rs 55 lakh for a 625kVA generator, Rs 55 lakh for a 2000 kVA transformer, Rs 2.02 crore for construction of a Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with laminar air flow and Rs 45 lakh for purchase of furniture and other equipment. Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, managing director, MRPL H Kumar, project director, Nirmithi Kendra Rajendra Kalbhavi and SE, MCC Shivashankar Swami were present.
