New Udupi SP moots Commando Squad in district

Udupi, Aug 14, 2014 :   P Rajendra Prasad, the new Udupi District Superintendent of Police has said that a 30 member Commando Squad will be set up  in the district  in order to assist the Department in times of emergencies, to maintain peace, law and order and  to be on duty during the visit of VIPs.

Speaking to reporters at his office on August 12, Tuesday soon after taking charge,  the SP said a similar squad set up in Chamrajnagar and Mysore districts where he has served earlier  have proved successful.


He said the Hoysala squad would be further strengthened and used as police control room. Each vehicle will have five personnel and would be considered as a mobile outpost, he informed.

Stating that  Udupi district was nothing new to him, Rajendra Prasad said he  had served a DySP here for a period of three months in 2002.

Maintenance of law and order, making the police department people-friendly would be on top of my agenda, he said.  No scope would be given to anyone to take law into hands, he warned. Priority will also be given to sensitize the society on traffic rules, he informed.

On the Ratna Kottari case, the SP said the case would be investigated from all angles. Referring to cases of alleged sexual harassment in schools, he said  he would convene a meet of all concerned to discuss the issue.
