New Solid Waste Management Project to be effective from Feb 1 : Sorake

Mangaluru, Jan 24, 2015:  State Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake has informed that the new solid waste management project which was launched on January 23, Friday will be effective from February 1 in all the sixty wards in MCC limits. He said under the scheme wastes will be separated as dry and wet wastes before collecting the same.

Speaking to reporters in the city on January 23, Friday the minister  who also inaugurated a sewage treatment plant a Jeppinamogaru said another plant set up under KUDCEMP will be operational at Suratkal soon and added the projects aim at ensuring  that Mangaluru city is free from the Malaria menace.

 Informing that a sum of Rs 22 crore has been allotted under SFC scheme, the minister stated that a sum of Rs 162 crore has been earmarked for 24x7 water supply in city and Rs 75 crore for the ongoing Thumbay second vented dam construction. An amount  of Rs 120 crore has been earmarked for underground drainage project, the minister stated.

 The Minister also stated that a sum of Rs 8.6 crore would be utilised towards providing drinking water facility at Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple, while  the Temple Trust will spend Rs 7 crore towards Under Ground Drainage Project. As many as six markets in Mangaluru will be  developed under Public Private Partnership Model, the minister informed.
