New Mangalore Port authorities rush Ukranian sailor to hospital after suffering stroke at sea

Mangaluru, May 7, 2017 (Times of India): New Mangalore Port authorities on Saturday received a distress message on email about urgent medical assistance from the master of MT Flagship Orchid. The merchant transport vessel enroute Sikka was coming from Singapore. According to the master, a Ukrainian crew Sergiy Nalyvayko, 40 encountered a medical emergency when he suffered from a stroke that restricted his ability to use the left side of his body.

Based on the information that the vessel would reach New Mangalore Port limit after midnight, the port authorities promptly responded to the distress call and arranged for a medical evacuation.

The Ukrainian crew was successfully evacuated using a port tug at 12.35am on Sunday and taken to a private hospital in the city through the steamer agent Atlantic Shipping Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru. Nalyvayko is under observation and his condition is presently stable.
