Speaking at a meeting at MUDA, he said that a preliminary survey on the proposal has been completed. A detailed second stage survey would be taken up for which the State government has released Rs. 25 lakh.

He instructed the officials to complete the second stage of survey within a month.  If ready, it would serve as a by-pass road connecting the two national highways. The four-lane road, MLA Lobo said, would have jogging and cycling tracks.

The MLA said that the MUDA has proposed to take up this project under its town planning scheme.

MLA  Lobo said that this road could be continued on the riverfront via Old Port, Sulthan Bathery to connect the New Mangalore Port under the Sagar Mala project.

However, many local involved people are of the view that similar plans have only been talked about and no concrete action has been emerging here in the last decade. There has to be a will and action.

Two officials from the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) were present at the meeting. These officials later went for a spot inspection of the area where the road has been proposed.
