Udupi, Aug 15, 2015:  The Bhujanga Park,  and it’s eastern side is famous,  it was here that Gandhiji gave his speech in Udupi on February 25, 1934. Today it is neglected place.

A few years ago some renovation work was done by the CMC - Udupi City Municipal Council.  Now it is in a bad condition and neglected wild grass grows around and it is a den for stray dogs too.

Gandhiji’s figure installed in a ‘mantapa’ here  is now used by  drunk and intoxicated dregs.  The gate of the park is open and stuck, there is hardly any security around it.  The radio tower in the park  which attracted people in the evenings a few years ago is not in ruins and  useless.

The children’s corner in this section of the park is in a bad shape.  The herbal garden in this section has no herbal trees now. The Eastern section of the park is usually cleaned on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanati on October 2 as the Udupi CMC holds the Gandhi Jayanti function here. The Eastern side and Western side of this park are divided by a road. The Western side of the park is well maintained strangely.

CMC President,  P. Yuvaraj,  told  media Aug 14  that Rs. 6 lakh would be spent on constructing a fence around this section.  Municipal councillors will do ‘shramadaan’ soon and clear the wild grass. We will also plant saplings in this section with the help of Department of Forests and see that matters improve.
