Need of the times is job interviews in Kannada says Minister Madhwaraj

Udupi, Jan 16, 2017: Speaking after inaugurating the three-day 11th District Kannada Sahitya Sammelan, organised by the Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishath at Brahmavar in Udupi district, here recently.

Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, has said that it is essential to conduct interviews for jobs in Kannada so that those who had learnt in Kannada medium would have better prospects.

Minister Madhwaraj said that it was only when job interviews were held in Kannada instead of English that it created a level playing field for those who had studied in Kannada medium. Entrance exams for all subjects, barring English, for undergraduate, postgraduate and other courses, should be held in Kannada.

People in the coastal districts were infatuated with English because they feared that the employment prospects of their children would be hampered if they sent them to Kannada medium schools, he said. M. Ramachandra, writer and president of the 11th District Kannada Sahitya Sammelan, said that the State government had an ambiguous stand on the English medium schools.

But the government’s announcements of priority to Kannada were confined to only the Rajyotsava Day and press statements. The mushrooming of English medium schools every year proved this point. No point was served by having Government Model Schools, if basic facilities were not provided there.

Harikrishna Punaroor, former President of Kannada Sahitya Parishath, released the book ‘Hathu Halavu’ an anthology of articles written by Prof. M. Ramachandra. An anthology of pomes “Jeevana Pavana” written by Nagesh Kumar G. Rao, and another anthology of poems “Melsuri” written Alphonse D’Souza were also released on the occasion.
