Naxal activities near Udupi suspected

Udupi, Feb 24, 2018: A group of five to six people, alleged to be Naxals, knocked on the door of a woman’s house at Jadkal Bridge on the way from Onse to Kollur and demanded food at 1.30am on Thursday.


Naxal 2Laxmi Mogaveera, the woman peeped out of her window and saw the six people were carrying rifles. She got scared and did not open the door. The persons locked the door from outside and went away.
Confirming the incident, Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi said, “A few men knocked the door of the house at Jadkal and asked for food. The old lady living in the house only saw them from the window and could not identify their dress. As she did not interact with them, we cannot confirm if they were Naxals. However four camps of the the Anti Naxal Force at Jeddinagadde(Amasebailu), Shankarnaryana, Hebri and Karkala have started combing operation and we will keep a watch in and around these areas.”


Although Naxal activities have drastically come down in the district, Naxalites try to prove their presence before any election, said sources. Naxal actities in Udupistarted in 2002 during the agitation for the forest dwellers at Kudremukh.
