Udupi, Jan 24, 2019: Laxman B. Nimbargi, Superintendent of Police, said on Wednesday that the Navy was searching for the fishing boat, Suvarna Tribhuja from Malpe, which went missing off the Goa coast with seven fishermen on December 15.

Mr. Nimbargi told The Hindu that a Navy ship had conducted search operations to check if Suvarna Tribhuja had sunk, using sonar.

It had detected a 22-metre wreckage, but it was not certain that it belonged to Suvarna Tribhuja. To get a three-dimensional image of the wreckage, another Navy ship, Sutlej, was trying to trace it for the last two days, he said.

Police sources here said that a Navy ship, which was moving from Karwar towards Maharashtra on December 15, had some marks as if something hit it at the bottom. Meanwhile, police teams from here which had gone to Maharashtra and Kerala with representatives of fishermen from Malpe to check if the missing boat along with the seven missing fishermen had been hijacked, had returned empty handed, a few days back.
