Navy, Coast Guard join Search for Missing Fishing Boat

Mangaluru,  Dec 25,  2018 : The search for missing fishing boat ’Suvarna Tribhuja’ has intensified with Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard deploying vessels and air craft for carrying out the search and rescue operation.  “Indian Coast Guard ships based at Mangalore and Goa and aircraft are involved in the search for the  missing  fishing boat ’Suvarna Tribhuja’ which was reported to Coast Guard on 23 Dec 18 at 12:05 hrs,” confirmed DIG SS Dasila, commander of Coast Guard Karnataka.

A Coast Guard Dornier aircraft carried out a three hour sortie on 23 December from Mangalore. Two fast patrol vessels operating off Goa and Karnataka coasts have also been pressed into action. A Coast Guard helicopter was pressed to service on 24 December.

Interceptor Craft and Interceptor Boats are also in action, he said. Meanwhile, it is learned that Indian Navy has tasked its ship ‘Karshova’ for search from Karwar.
Fishing boat ’Suvarna Tribhuja’ ventured into sea from Malpe on 13 December at about 11.00 p.m. for deep sea fishing with eight men on board. Apart from the boat owner and skipper Chandrashekar (40), there were seven fishermen Damodar Badanidiyoor (40), Laxman Kumta (45), Satish Kumta, Harish Kumta (28), Ramesh Kumta (30), Jogayya (40) and Ravi Manki(27).

Its last contact was on 18th December and subsequently complaint was lodged with Coastal Security Police, Malpe. It is believed to have disappeared about 40-50 kms off the Coast of Goa-Ratnagiri region.
