Mangaluru Oct 1, 2016: The Navarathri Mahotsav- 2016 celebrations at the Shree Gokarnanatha Kshetra at Kudroli commenced with grandeur today October 1, Saturday, The festivities began with the Prathishtapana of the idols of Goddess Sharada and Navadurgas  at the Gokarnanatha Kalyana Mantap of the shrine.   Mangaluru Police Commissioner M Chandrashekar symbolically inaugurated the festivities.

In his address, Commissioner  said that Dasara is celebrated as a festival of the victory of good over evil. People should celebrate the  festival with the same spirit, he added.

The  Commissione also informed that security across the city has been stepped up in view of the festival with 800 police personnel, 350 Home Guards and 200 armed forces  deployed in various places.

 A Huli Vesha team was the added attraction of the day. The Huliveshadharis danced to the beating of the drums, in front of the idol of Sharada during its pratishtapana.

Mangaluru Dasara is celebrated in a very spectacular way by worshipping the idols of Ganesha, Adhi Shakthi Maatha and  Navadurgas for nine days and nine nights during  Navarathri. On the tenth day these idols are taken in the grand procession of Mangaluru Dasara throughout the city. The procession returns to Gokarnanatheshwara Kshetra the next day morning when all the idols are immersed in the lake inside the temple premises.

President of Kudroli Temple HS Sairam, Padmaraj and other committee members including Malathi Janardhana Poojary, Urmila Ramesh Kumar,  Padmaraj R, BK Tharnath, K Harishchandra and others were present.
