Mangaluru, May 22, 2015: The DK DC Adoor B Ibrahim on May 21, Thursday issued a press release informing of the postponement of the National Surfing Championship fixed between May 29 and May 31 in Mangaluru in view of the model code of conduct for the Gram Panchayat elections.
The event will now be held in October 22 and October 25. The Deputy Commissioner felt it would be difficult to invite people’s representatives in the district for the event in view of the model code of conduct.
The Mulki-based Surfing Federation of India expressed its disappointment with the postponement. Preparations were at an advanced stage and over 60 participants had registered for the Championship, being held for the first time in Karnataka.
Federation Vice-President Rammohan Paranjape told media, the organisers did not seek any government funding for the event. Paranjape hoped that the event would be held as planned in October without change.
