National Seminar on ’Karnataka Through the Ages’ inaugurated

Mangaluru, April 12, 2016 : A two-day national seminar on ’Karnataka Through the Ages : New Historiographical Perspectives’ organised at the Ravindra Kalabhavan of University College was inaugurated on April 12, Monday by State Minister for  Youth Affairs and Sports Abhayachandra Jain. The seminar was jointly organised by the Departments of History of Mangalore University and University College.

In his address, Jain said historical facts play an important role in various policy decisions in a democratic nation. There is a need to ensure that  accurate facts are mentioned without any bias, he added.

Prof. Lokesh who spoke as a chief guest, said modern historians faced a number of challenges. A number of questions are also raised as to whether historians  are able to present facts without any scope for fear, he said.

Dr  B Nanjamma Chinnappa from Coorg spoke about her experiences in documenting Kodagu’s  Ain Mane or ancestral home.
