Mangaluru, March 04, 2016 : The three-day National Matsya Mela-2016 organised by the College of Fisheries and Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation, was inaugurated at the TMA Pai International Convention Centre here on March 4, Friday by Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim.
The DC also launched an online fish sale and delivery portal named www.buyfish.in initiated by the KFDC. He said through the portal, customers can purchase fish online for home delivery anywhere in the city.
He also stated that the Fisheries sector must make use of its full potential. In his address, the DC also underlined the need to have uniform price for the fish of different varieties with the objective of stabilising the fish market.
Hiriyanna, KFDC Chairman who also spoke, admitted that there is a decline in fish catch though the demand is high. He also spoke about the schemes initiated by KFDC to promote fish products.
Jacintha Vijay Alfred, Mayor of Mangaluru, Dr Gopal Krishna, MCC Commissioner, V K Shetty, Managing Director of KFDC and others were present.
