Mangaluru, April 10, 2015: It was marvellous task done by erstwhile East India Company, then just a business entity, in survey and length and breadth of nation from Kanyakumari to Himalayan mountain range two centuries back, lauded Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim.

He was presiding over National Land Survey day function marking the “The Great Trigonometrical Survey in India” on this date of 1802 organised by Karnataka Survey, Settlement and Land Records Departmen here in meeting hall of Deputy Commissioner Office on April 10, 2015.

The Deputy Commissioner remembered the works of Alexander Reade, the second District Collector of Canara district and first Collector of Dharmapuri under Madras province, during initial years of survey in south India.

Though British came here for business they took the selfless task of land survey very accurately without modern technology and communication. Now, we should thrive hard to very accurate land measurement for the benefit of general public, Ibrahim called on surveyors.
Now, with all modern equipments we are unable to take up re-survey land in the state, noted Ibrahim. 

The Chief Guest of the function Chief Officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayath P.I.Shreevidya urged the land surveyors for error free survey of land. It is very important because policy decisions are being taken based on land survey data and it will be very important record for both general public and government agencies, she added.

Bhaskar, retired survey officer spoke on behalf of retired officials and shared his experience in Survey department and his participation model resurvey of land at Maddur in Mandya district. He noted that urban property survey is in progress in Shimoga and Dakshina Kannada districts.
On occasion deputy commissioner felicitated retired survey officials Bhaskar, Sanjeeva, Medappa and Sudhakar.

ADM Sadashiva Prabhu, Tahsildar Mohan Rao, Deputy Director of Survey, Settlement and Land Records Srinivasn were present among others.
