Namma Kudla Organizes Goodu Deepa Contests in Mangalore

Namma Kudla will organize the tenth annual Goodu Deepa competitions in the premises of Kudroli Lord Gokarnanatha Temple at 4 p.m. on October 16, Friday. Mr. Kadri Navaneet Shetty, organiser, provided this information at a press conference.

The contest will have 3 categories—traditional, modern, and unique. The first and the second prize winners will receive a gold medal each. The others who succeed is getting appreciative remarks from the judges will receive consolation prizes.

Those who would like to participate in the Goodu Deepa competition are required to register and select one of the categories at the venue before 4p.m. on October 16, Friday. Participants must bring all the material they require to make the goodu deepas.

Prizes will be given away at the valedictory ceremony of the Goodu Deepa contest, which will be organized at 8 p.m. on October 16, Friday. Mr. Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli, associate organiser, said that Mr. B. Janardhana Poojary, the former union minister; Jaya C. Suvarna, president of the Akhila Bharat Billava Federation; P. Jayaram Bhat, the managing director of Karnataka Bank; Nanjundi, the small screen artist; and Mr. Walter Nandalike, the managing director of Daijiworld Media will attend the valedictory programme.

Mr. Kukkuvalli also said that prestigious awards will be conferred at the valedictory programme. The Namma Tuluver Award will be conferred on entrepreneur Mr. A. J. Shetty. The Namma Kudla – 2009 Award will be given to veteran artiste Machchendranath Pandeshwar. Mr. Raghavendra Kuloor will be specially honored and felicitated.
