Muneer KatipallaMangaluru, Sept 18, 2016: Nagarika Horata Samiti of Jokatte village will hold a protest on September 19 Monday, tomorrow against Mangaluru city police for serving notices under CrPC Section 113 seeking bond from its members, who were part of the fight against the third unit of MRPL on environmental concerns.  Samiti members said they will hold a protest rally with black flags from Surathkal railway bridge to Surathkal police station. DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla, a member of the Samiti, told reporters that the police action treating activists as criminals is condemnable.

He said the city police have sent notices seeking bond of Rs 50,000 and surety from Samithi members B S Hussein, Aboobakker Bava, Moideen Sherief and Vijayananda Rao.

"We came to know from sources that the city police is planning to add them into the rowdy sheeter list. It is unfortunate that those who fought for a public cause are being treated as rowdy-sheeters. Senior citizen Hussein is a retired government officer who worked in Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat and Mangaluru City Corporation. While Aboobakker and Moideen are elected members of Thokur - Jokatte gram panchayat, Vivekananda is a noted Yakshagana artist. However, the city police are opening rowdy sheeter list against them with ulterior motives," Muneer alleged.

"The Samiti was formed to fight against pollution from the MRPL Phase II unit. After nearly one and a half year’s fight, the government has issued directions to solve the issue. All cases registered against Samiti members were related to this fight. However, they have been summoned by the city police commissioner to appear before him and submit bonds. Hence, we have decided to hold protest," he added.
