NMPT to develop 100 MT cargo capacity by 2020

Mangalore, Aug 17, 2014:   Speaking after hoisting flag as a part of 68th Independence Day celebrations, Chairman P C Parida said, New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has developed infrastructure to handle 77MT of cargo and also in the process of augmenting its capacity to 100MT by 2020.

He also said with an objective to make Port a green and clean port, incentives have been extended for augmentation of container traffic. Development of additional yard for container and warehouses for general cargo are also in progress to facilitate handling of more general cargo. He said that the work of deepening the Harbour to 18 mtrs and above is also on anvil to accommodate cape size vessels inside the port to reduce the sea transportation of cost to make Exim trade competitive.


The Chairman said the port has provided required facility to the consortium of ONGC for development of infrastructure for handling LNG for which the DPR as per the schedule may be completed by the end of this financial year.


The Chairman distributed cash awards to the school children who have secured highest marks in the SSLC, and 12th Std, sports personalities, NMPT employees and CISF personnel. School books to the students of Government School, Panambur and school bags to the Port children of conservancy workers were distributed.  The personnel from CISF, port fire service, port trust schools and Central school students participated and the day was marked with great enthusiasm.
