Mangaluru, August 02: New Mangalore Port is now free from Notional gang and Speed money practice from August 01, 2018 said M.T. Krishna Babu, Chairman, NMPT.

NMPT Chairman.

The Chairman thanked the members of the unions for successfully implementing the orders from 01 Aug 2018 and conveyed that their positive response is also appreciated by the other stakeholders of the Port and it will help reduce the overall logistics costs and help make NMPT more competitive. In other initiatives in this direction, the Business Development team will soon embark on regular visits to these potential shippers, to attract greater volumes of cargo to the Port.

The Chairman had a series of meetings with the representatives of the Unions in the Port and convinced the necessity to eliminate the unhealthy practices of speed money and notional gangs which were hampering the growth of the Port.  These practice lead to diversion of the non-captive cargo from the region and the hinterland to other competitor ports such as Kattupalli, Krishnapatnam, Ennore, and Chennai.

M.T. Krishna Babu, has assured the unorganized labour of the Port that their medical needs would be met by establishing a clinic with outpatient consultation (including specialists) and a dispensary providing free generic medicines, which would soon be commenced at the Port premises. This facility would also be extended to the local populace at Panambur. NMPT would further extend financial support to the wards of these workers for their higher studies, and would be undertaken through the CSR funds of the Port.
