Free meals are provided in schools as part of ’Mid-Day Meal’ programme to encourage poor parents to send their children to school. But the major problem faced is poor management.  To overcome this a food vending machine has been designed. Dispensing machine distributes food and milk based on finger print scanner.

The food dispenser is designed by Subramanya Shetty, Shivananda, Udaya and Chandrashekar Moger students of NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte under the guidance of Pradeep Kanchan, Asst Professor, Department of CSE, NMMAMIT.  The project is recognised and sponsored by Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST).

It is awarded Certificate of Appreciation under the category " Gandhian Young Technological Innovation(GYTI) Awards-2015" by Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI) held at Rashtrapati Bhavan recently.  Indeed it could help in the aim it is meant to.
