Mangaluru, Feb 11, 2020: National Commission for Women Member Shyamala Kunder on February 11, Tuesday visited Wenlock Hospital where the acid attack victim from Puttur is undergoing treatment. Kunder interacted with the victim and assured that the Commission was with her in her fight for justice. The woman and her child had to bear the brunt of the acid attack at Kadaba on January 23.
Speaking to reporters later, the NCW Member deplored the insensitivity shown by the cops when the victim had arrived at the station to lodge a complaint after walking for three kms despite the burn injuries and pain. The cops could have very well admitted her to hospital first before getting a complaint filed as the victim at that moment was in deep pain and was unable to write, Kunder observed.
She said the Commission has lodged a suo moto case in connection with the incident. She said she had spoken to the SP on the dereliction of duty of the cops, action initiated as well as the probe into the incident.
A Usman, Deputy Director of Department of Women and Child Welfare, Dr Shivaprakash, surgeon of Wenlock Hospital and others were present.
