NAAC challenges for high standard in varsities

Mangaluru, Jan 14, 2018: The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) committee has been setting  new challenges for universities and colleges in order to maintain the quality of teaching.

Accordingly, education institutions should maintain high standards both in terms of infrastructure and internal quality, opined Calicut University former vice chancellor Prof M Abdul Rehman.

The former VC was speaking after inaugurating a one-day workshop organised by the Internal Quality Assessment Cell of University College, Hampankatta, at Karantha Bhavana of the campus on Saturday.

The NAAC committee sets new criteria every time to assess the quality of education in colleges and universities.

The very quality is the basic eligibility for the colleges to obtain UGC grants, he said.

College Principal Dr Uday Kumar M A said that the university college has been evaluated by NAAC on three rounds and every time the college has scored higher scores than the previous rounds.

Prof Dr H S Badri from Presidency College, Bengaluru and Dr M Edwin Gnanadhas from Scott Christian College, Nagercoil were the resource persons for the workshop.

SDM College, Ujire former Principal Dr Yashoverama moderated a panel discussion on the occasion.

Lecturers from various colleges took part in the workshop.
