Mystery shrouds death of youth in Ujire

Belthangady, June 14, 2014:  The death of a  youth named Mahesh Naik (24) of Ujire has been shrouded in mystery. His body was found in the fields of one Babu Gowda  at Ichhavupadavu in Ujire with one of his hands chopped off.

Mahesh was the son of Manjappa Naik and was a painter and mason by profession.  As an electric cable from a pump shed located nearby was found near the body, the suspicion was that he was electrocuted.

But his family has informed the police that Mahesh along with Rajesh and two of his friends had gone fishing on June 12, Thursday night and that on way Mahesh  tripped and fell  into a trap laid for wild boar. When one of his friends realised that he was electrocuted, he used the weapon in hand to cut the cable but that  weapon hit Mahesh and severed his hand.

The police are yet to make any conclusive decision regarding the cause of the death of Mahesh. It is learnt, it was Rajesh who informed his family about the death.

Investigations are underway.
