Muslim leaders meet Pejawar seer on Id

Udupi, June 16, 2018: Udupi Muslim community leaders visited Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt on Id-ul-Fitr here on June 15,  Friday.

Last year, the seer had organised a “sneha koota” at a dining hall in the outer precincts of the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple complex here. But that move generated a lot of controversy. The seer, a couple of weeks back, said that no final decision had been taken on holding such a gettogether this year as the Muslim leaders were not keen on it following last year’s controversy.

Speaking to media after meeting the Muslim leaders here on June 15, Friday, the seer said that he was planning to organise a ‘sneha koota’ involving members of all religions – Hindus, Muslims and Christians. But as he was on a tour to North India, he did not get sufficient time to plan it.

“I’m thinking of holding a ‘sneha koota’ and not an iftaar in the coming days. Last year too, I had held a sneha koota, but it got publicised as iftaar. I have good relations with people of all religions. All communities should live in harmony and there should be peace in the country,” the seer said.

Ansar Ahmed, leader of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, said that he along with other members of the Muslim community visited the seer during every Ramzan. “Since the holding of ‘sneha koota’ generated a lot of controversy last year, we ourselves urged the seer not to hold it,” he said.

The leader of the community presented fruits to the seer.
