Bangalore, April 19, 2013 :  Police have arrested BM Chandrashekhar, a well-known veena player in connection with the murder of his wife Preethi(38) who hailed from Mangalore  and her cousin Veda(37) over a domestic dispute on April 18, Thursday.

veena 1Chandrashekhar had married Preethi, a teacher in a pre-school  three years ago. This was his third marriage while for Preethi it was a second marriage. Chandrashekhar had a daughter from his first wife, while Preethi had two daughters from her first marriage.

It is learnt, both Chandrashekhar and Preethi  had a discord over some issue and that the former used to harass Preethi  physically and mentally.  Chandrashekhar used to conduct music classes and gave performances. Sources said he murdered  Preethi after she decided to annual their marriage. There is also a suspicion that a property dispute  might have culminated in the murder as Chandrashekhar owned a 3-storied apartment in Girinagar and had sold two floors.

There were reports that Preethi demanded that the remaining property be transferred in her name.  Preethi’s mother Geetha Acharya who had visited her daughter’s place on Thursday morning found her daughter and Veda lying in a pool of blood. Veda’s one year old child Manju was at the house.Chandrashekhar was later arrested  from an under-construction building.

According to   DCP (South Division) H S Revanna  killed Preethi by attacking her with an iron rod and that Veda who might have rushed to the rescue of Preethi might have been eventually killed.

Preethi’s mother informed that she had received a call from her daughter the previous day stating that it has become difficult to live with Chandrashekhar.

However,  there have been contradictory reports on the actual reasons that led to the murder. One neighbour even said there was high drama on the lanes a week ago when  Preethi had  left for Mumbai along with her children and mother. One argument is that she might have come home to collect her belongings with Veda when both got killed.

Investigations are in progress.
