J.R. Lobo, MLA, Mangaluru City South, told media  that the project at the old deer park  part of the Kadri Park was agreed.   Tender process will soon start, for construction through the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

MLA Lobo,  former Commissioner of the  MCC - Mangaluru City Corporation, said an amphitheatre (open air seating arrangement to view musical fountain show), landscape and compound wall for the area, would be part of the project.

The plan to make the road in between the old deer park and main Kadri Park as a “commercial street” with a series of stalls on one side and parking facility on the other side was on the cards.   Tourists and visitors  should be able to shop for  art material  and local products here.

A  facelift to the Kadri Park was also expected. The  entrance would become attractive a new  gate with artistic features. Mini fountains would be constructed inside the park and a mini park for specially abled children is also in mind.

MLA Lobo said he would use the MLA’s fund and donations from sponsors to give a facelift to the place opposite the deer park  and not be part of the Rs. 5-crore project.   He stated talks were on about constituting a society for maintaining the entire Kadri Park on the lines of a society that is managing the Pilikula Nisargadhama. The society can comprise a devoted team to supervise its maintenance, and would strive towards collecting funds for future development projects.   Dakshina Kannada DC should be the head of the proposed society. Currently, Kadri Park is being maintained by the Horticulture Department.  This is a vital need in this city where  parks and gardens are fast disappearing.
