Music workshop held at Kalaangann

June 13, 2017: A media note states that ’Sumell’ – Choral Singing Group, in association with Mandd Sobhann, organised a 3-days’ Residential Choral Singing Workshop, at Kalaangann, which just concluded.

 

Forty seven singing enthusiasts from in and around Mangaluru, Goa/Konkan participated in this camp, which was inaugurated by the Chief Trainer, eminent Musicologist / Conductor, Kurian Varkey, Bengaluru, by unveiling a gramophone covered by an earthen pot having musical notations.

In the workshop, Musician Kurian Varkey gave the participants exhaustive information regarding the History of Music, Singing Techniques, Music Notation, Breathing Exercises, Sound Production,

Harmony, Warm-up, Tone, Performance and Range. Each theory session was followed by practical exercises and choral practices. Sangeet Guru Joel Pereira and Anil Patrao assisted  Kurian Varkey  during the training sessions.

At the Concluding Ceremony, well-known Music Composer, Singer and Choir Master,  Melwyn Peris, distributed certificates to the participants of the workshop. 2 participants – Michelle D’Sa and  Agnelo Fernandes shared their experiences of the workshop. Kurian  Varkey distributed certificates to the participants of the Dance Workshop held May end.

The participants then presented 3 songs that they learnt during the workshop. Irine Rebello, Secretary of Sumell compered arranged the Closing Ceremony with Raina Sequeira .

Gurkar Eric Ozario Bab (Workshop Director), Louis J. Pinto Bab (President, Mandd Sobhann) and Avil D’Cruz (Leader, Nach Sobhann) were present and gave their support.
