Neha, though born and brought up in Bengaluru, has her roots in the coastal city of Mangaluru. It was her success in the Miss Mangalore contest in 2013 and her first runner- up place in Miss South India contest in 2015 that propelled this model into filmdom.

Interacting with media, Neha Shetty said she is taking a break from films to get her priorities right. "It is true that Mungaru Male 2, despite being released amidst the Cauvery agitation, has been a success. But I do not want to rush into another film right now. I want to take a break," Neha said. She said she has several offers in hand, but she will take up the next project only when she feels the time is right. Stating that she as an actor is interested in trying out different roles, Neha, said she does not have any ideal role or character in mind. "If you take the example of MM2, I personally felt that I could have done a particular scene better. But since the people have accepted it, I am happy," she said adding the only slot in acting was a 15-day workshop she attended before the film shooting started. "So, I am a self-made actor who has learnt watching others act," she said.

About her movie MM2, Neha said it was a different type of sequel where she had to shoulder the responsibility of the character Nandini that Pooja Gandhi immortalized in Yogaraj Bhat’s super hit Mungaru Male. A student at Sophia High School, Bengaluru, when Mungaru Male cast its spell over cine goers a decade ago, Neha, said the only thing she missed in MM2 was Devdas, the rabbit. "I love rabbits, but had to be content with camels," Neha said referring to MM2.
