Multi-village drinking water project in final stages

Mangaluru, Mar 06, 2015:  As per press reports, the multi-village drinking water project, worth Rs 18 crore will be completed by the end of March at Kollurpadavu near Kinnigoli. The project is expected to provide drinking water to 17 villages from eight Gram Panchayats in Mulki hobli of Mangaluru taluk.

water projectThe project, one of its kind in the district is in its last stage of completion and is supposed to supply water during peak summer.  The project will cover Balkunje, Aikala, Kinnigoli, Mennabettu, Kilpadi, Padupanamburu, Haleyangadi and Kemral Gram Panchayats.

Water will be supplied by constructing vented dams at Karnere-Palimaru on Shambhavi river near Balkunje and water will be pumped using gravitational force to supply to a huge tank in Kollupadavu and later to different tanks in villages.   Unnecessary delay for political reasons delayed the project, which was supposed to be completed in 2011.

Experimental basis  :   Water is being supplied on an experimental basis, to 40 tanks in the nearby villages. There were problems such as leakage in pipes, saline water and so on earlier.  The work is near complete and the widening of pipeline is being done at Golijora, Pakshikere, Kemral and Haleyangadi, said Assistant Engineer Vishwanath.

Engineer Dayananda Nayak said that a committee made up of people from beneficiary villages will be constituted. Around 18 employees will be appointed for monitors, technicians, information collectors and maintenance.

Meters will be installed at the tanks in every villages, for billing purposes, and records created.
