Mother tortures minor daughter, rescued

Belthangady, Oct 23, 2016: An incident reported says a mother assaulted her minor daughter and threw her out of the house at Renkedaguthu near Belthangady.

The public which witnessed the incident, informed the Child Help Centre and District Child Safety Unit. Sunanda resided with two daughters, one who failed in SSLC, the other a class 9 student. The victim was employed in a private firm and at night pasted beedi labels to packets.

Local anganwadi workers visited the house with Child Help Centre and Child Safety Unit officials. The victim told them that her mother regularly harassed and assaulted her. She added that she was forced to work at night or else she would not be given food. The girl had injuries on her face, head, hands and legs; she was admitted to Lady Goshen Hospital, Mangaluru and thereafter was taken to a girls’ hostel.

Though the police were informed about the incident, no case was registered.
