Mother Theresa International Film Festival inaugurated at St Agnes Special School

Mangaluru Sep 19, 2016: Mother Theresa International Film Festival-2016 was inaugurated  at St Agnes Special School today Sep 19, Monday by Gautham Lewis, a film maker and a pilot. This film festival is jointly organised by the World Catholic Association for Communication India Chapter in association with Canara Communication Centre and Missionaries of Charity Sisters, to mark canonization of Mother Theresa.

 

Gautham Lewis was a polio afflicted child from Kolkata who was  rescued by Mother Theresa and eventually adopted by a British Nuclear physicist. Now a film maker and  pilot, he runs s a training school for disabled people to be pilots in London.

Speaking on the occasion Gautham Lewis recalled his initial days while he was paralysed 18 months after his birth."After my parents abandoned me, I was fortunate to be rescued by Mother Theresa," he said.

"Indeed it was not a happiest childhood then. Later, someone from UK turned up to adopt me from Shishir Bhavan," he added.

Stating that he was lucky to get the best of education, he said he strongly believed in serving the society and helping others and also  owed gratitude to the  Missionaries of Charity for giving him a fresh lease of life.

Director of Canara Communication Centre Fr Richard D Souza said that, films will be screened in St Agnes  Special School, St Agnes College, Roshni Nilaya, Padua and CM Hall at St Joseph Seminary. More than 20 films will be screened during this occasion.

Principal St Agnes Special School Sr Shruthi, Sr Benedict and others were present.
