Udupi, November 13, 2011 : Motamma, the opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Council, has criticized the BJP-led state government for failing to maintain good roads in the state. Interacting with reporters in Udupi, she said that the roads connecting taluk centres in Udupi are in a pathetic condition. In spite of its claims that it is for development, the BJP has failed to provide good infrastructure within the state, she added.

Further, she informed that the DC of Udupi has admitted that the Rs. 4 crore received by the Udupi district from the flood relief fund last year has not yet been used and that the district has received Rs. 2 crore from the calamity fund this year, which is yet to be used. In the meanwhile, the people of the villages in and around Shirva are struggling with problems such as shortage of drinking water. Motamma remarked that it is indeed surprising that a district, which has Dr. V. S. Acharya as its district-in-charge minister, must have such problems.

Complaining further, Motamma said that beneficiaries have not yet received sites for houses; instead, BJP leaders and their associates have received government land.

Accusing the BJP of gross misuse of power, Motamma said that if a beneficiary in Chikamagalur wants Suvarna Bhoomi Yojana applications, he/she will approach the MLA and beneficiaries requiring applications for Arogya Cards in Udupi will approach a BJP councilor and not the CMC commissioner or the horticulture department. All this proves misuse of power, she added.
