More than 200 houses damaged in district in fortnight, Udupi DC

Udupi, May 19, 2016 :Speaking to media here, Udupi DC Dr R. Vishal said on May 18, Wednesday that 201 houses were damaged due to rain accompanied by gusty winds and lightning in Udupi district in the last 15 days.

DC Dr. Vishal said that of the 201 houses, four houses had been completely damaged, while 197 were partially damaged. There were five cases of damage to horticultural crops.  Two head of cattle got killed in lightning. Nearly 170 mm of rainfall had been received in the last 17 days.  The damage due to rain in the district had been estimated at about Rs. 50 lakh.

The district administration had released Rs. 30 lakh to the three tahsildars of Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala.  This was in addition to the Rs. 20 lakh already released to them.   This amount would help in fast disposal of compensation claims, he said.
