Moodbidri returns to normalcy; BJP sets deadline for arrest of Prashanth’s killers

Moodbidri, Oct 11, 2015: The town of Moodbidri which had witnessed tension and also observed bundh for two successive days on October 9 and 10 following the brutal murder of Bhajrangdal activist and a flower vendor Prashanth Poojary, has returned to normalcy on October 11, Sunday.

All shops and business establishments in the town have opened as usual and buses are also plying on the roads.

 

Over 10 taken to custody: Police who are investigating into the case have so far  taken into custody over ten persons in connection with the case. Meanwhile police are on the lookout for Imtiyaz Gantalkatte, Badruddin Gantalkatte, Ilias Sanoor and Sharief Todaru  whom Prashanth is learnt to have named before breathing his last.

Five cases registered: In connection with the violence in the aftermath of the murder, Mubeen who runs a fast-food shop close by Alva’s Hospital has lodged a complaint stating that a group of 50 persons has vandalised  his shop  resulting in a loss of Rs 6 lakhs.

In yet another complaint, Sheikh Ismail has alleged that miscreants who barged into the Vishwas Bava Builders Office on Alva’s Road have vandalised furniture and other goods inside the office.

Meanwhile, the police personnel have also lodged a suo moto complaint alleging that the police vehicle was stoned and damaged.

Anand Poojari, the father of the deceased  has lodged a complaint naming six accused in connection with the murder of his son.

Naravi and Venur also observed a bundh on Saturday in the wake of the murder.

Local BJP President KP Sucharitha Shetty has demanded arrest of the culprits and compensation of over Rs 25000 to Prashanth’s family.  Umanath Shetty, District BJP Vice President has accused police of failure to arrest the accused in the case.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary has also demanded an impartial probe into the case.

Senior BJP leader  Jagadish Adhikari who addressed a press meet here has set a deadline till Sunday evening for the police o arrest the accused.

DC visits town: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim who visited the town of Moodbidri on Saturday reviewed the situation and directed the police to initiate stern action against those resorting to disruptive acts.

Local MLA and State Minister K Abhayachandra Jain held a meeting with the DC, Police Commissioner Murugan and senior officials following the Moodbidri incident. The police have also requested the public not to pay heed to rumours.

As a precautionary measure, police have stepped up security across the district.
