It has been learnt that the stone pelting incidents were reported just as  Prashanth’s body was taken to his residence after placing it at the circle near Nishmitha Towers for public to pay last respects during the evening after the body was brought to the town from a hospital in Mangaluru.

In one incident a hotel at Vidyagiri was stoned and its glass panes damaged while in another case, a group barged into a real estate firm’s office and vandalised it just because it was open as usual. Some miscreants also tried to shut down a petrol bunk which was functioning opposite to the place where the murder took place. Sources said the camera of a  videographer of a TV channel who was videographing the event was also snatched and damaged.
The victim Prashanth was the son of Anand Poojary of Hosabettu. The assailants were maksed and had reportedly arrived in three bikes two of which had no number plates while another was a new bike.

The town observed an undeclared bundh following the incident with buses and autorickshaws remaining off the roads. Shops and business establishments too downedtheir shutters.
