Moodbidri, Jan 24, 2019: A baby monkey has been found dead inside a water drum in Neerude Ballalabail area of Kallamundkur village on January 24, Wednesday.
It is said the drum was in the vicinity of the residence of Krishnappa Shettigar of Ballalabail who had passed away ten days ago. As Shettigar was leading a solitary life there was no on in his house following his death and the dead monkey did not come to the notice of anyone.
It was only when foul smell began emanating from the area that locals went around and eventually found the baby monkey dead and its body in a decomposed state.
Kallamundkur PDO Uggappa Moolya, in-charge medical officer of the local primary health centre Dr Naseeba, veterinarian Dr Mahesh and others rushed to the spot along with forest officials. Later, an autopsy was conducted and health officials have clarified that no ticks were in the area where the monkey was found dead. They also opined that this might have been an accidental death and there was no need for any panic regarding Kyasanoor Forest disease as no one has developed any symptoms of the disease in the taluk.
