Monthi Fest’, Blessing of new corn shared with Tanzanian Catholics

Tanzania Sep,15, 2017: Bishop of Mangaluru, Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza presided over the traditional ’Mothi Fest’ celebrations in Same, Tanzania, which the Mangalore diocese has adopted. The feast of Nativity of Our Lady( ’Monthi Fest’) and the Blessing of new corn was marked with devotion and enthusiasm, at St Joseph Boy’s Science Secondary School, Kifaru Parish, Same, Tanzania. It was a very considerate and charitable principal for the leaders of Mangalore to implement in spirit and action. The news is creating ripples all over Kanara.

The celebration began at 4.30pm with the inauguration of  the newly built hall in the school. There after Bishop blessed the new corn and celebrated the Holy Eucharist. During the homily the Bishop explained the finer significance of the feast  of nativity and highlighted the importance of the family life, as has been follwed by Konkani catholics for centuries.   Rev Vincent Monteiro, Parish Priest of Kinnigoli, Mangalore, Rev Ronald Pinto the Parish Priest of Uppinangady, Mangalore, Rev Suresh from Pune India, the guest priests and Rev Alwyn D’Souza, Rev Hilary Lobo, Rev Victor Machado and Rev Jason Lobo concelebrated the Holy Eucharist.

Many interactions in this regard gave a good foundation in catholic practices to the Same people, who appreciated the initiative a lot.
