Modern fish processing plant inaugurated at Hoigebazar

Mangalore, Oct 13, 2014: State Minister for Fisheries and Youth Services Abhayachandra Jain has expressed hopes that the Union Government would soon permit construction of fisheries jetties at Suratkal, Kulai and Kaup.

He was speaking after inaugurating the cold storage unit of the modern fish processing plant set up at the Hoigebazar head office premises of the Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana on October 12 Sunday.

The Minister further stated that the government has plans to set up five more modern fish processing plants under the scheme in the coastal district.

 Speaking after inaugurating the modern plant, DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai said the government would give more importance towards construction of jetties and small ports.

JR Lobo, MLA presided over the function. Mahabala Maarla, Mayor, Kavitha Vasu, Deputy Mayor, Ivan D’Souza, MLC,  Nitin Kumar, former president  of the Corporation, B Nagaraj Shetty, former minister, VK Shetty, Managing Director of Fisheries Development Corporation, HS Veerappa Gowda, Director of Fisheries Department and others were present.

The   modern fish processing plant at Hoigebazar has been set up at a cost of Rs 6.50 crore and can process 16 to 20 metric tonnes of fish per day. The plant has a  500 tonne capacity cold storage,   flake ice plant,  trolley freezer and chilled room of 10 tonne capacity each and a plate freezer of 6 tonne capacity.
