The protest was organised by the local Nagarika Horata Samithi after its repeated pleas and various means of agitation failed to yield desirable result.

Some of the activists of the Samithi lay on the ground, with white clothes covering their bodies as if to symbolize that the toxic  smoke emitted by the  plants had claimed their lives.
State President of DYFI Muneer Katipalla who was part of the protest, slammed MRPL for its apathy to the problems of the local residents. He said the plant which was risking the health of the locals must be shut down. He  also deplored the inaction of the District Administration as well as the local elected representatives.

Several people including large number of women who are affected by the coke and sulphur units, took part in the protest.
