Mob kills a man accused in many cases

Mangaluru, Feb 16, 2016: As per reports, Peter, a 38-year-old resident of Thotadtady, a village near Belthangady, who was involved in cases of theft and other crimes, died after being assaulted by the residents of the village here on Feb 15, Monday.

Peter Peter, the victim, was among the two persons accused of stealing two bags of arecanut from the house of Jacob in the village on Monday February 15. Peter was reportedly caught by the people, along with four bags of arecanut that had been allegedly stolen from another house. The people tied him to a tree and called the Belthangady police. Before the police arrived, the village residents thrashed Peter black and blue, and he died before he could be taken to a hospital.

DK SP S.D. Sharanappa said that the village residents who were furious on Peter for his involvement in theft and other offences. This does not give them any justification for taking law into their hands and assaulting Peter.  SP Sharanappa said. A case of murder has been registered. Peter was involved in nine criminal cases. A process had been initiated to extern him from the district. Peter had been arrested and lodged in the Mangaluru prison. He was released on bail a few days ago.
