MoU between KRCL and IIT Bombay

Mangaluru, Dec 20, 2017: On 19th December 2017, an MoU was signed between Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai. The MoU for technical collaboration, which was signed by Sh. Sanjay Gupta, CMD, KRCL and Prof. D.V.Khakhar, Director, IIT Bombay will strengthen the George Fernandes Institute of Tunnel Technology (GFITT), set up by KRCL in Madgaon, Goa.

IIT Bombay is recognized worldwide for the high-quality education that it imparts at under-graduate and post-graduate levels, and for undertaking cutting-edge research in various areas of science, engineering, design, management and humanities. KRCL, a PSU under the Ministry of Railways, is an operating Railway having constructed the eponymous Konkan Railway Line, which is hailed as an “Engineering Marvel”. KRCL is one of the leaders in construction of transportation tunnels in India and in implementation of mega infrastructure projects.
The main objectives of the collaboration are to:

(i)Develop the GFITT into a world class premier center of knowledge in Tunnel & Underground Structure technologies.

(ii)Provide opportunity to Under Graduate and Post Graduate Scholars of IIT Bombay to gain practical experience and participate in R&D programs in tunneling & underground spaces.
