abdul razakBantwal, May 20, 2012: The Mangalore police have confirmed that Abdul Razak (35) of Kukkila near Vittal in Bantwal, who has been missing since May 14, is dead.

When the police found his body near Noor Masjid in Hampankatta on May 15, they could not identify it. The Pandeshwar police sent the body for post-mortem and registered a case of unnatural death as the body had marks of injury around the neck.

His wife Zohra, who lodged a missing person complaint in the Vittal Police Station, said that Razak left home on the evening of Monday. A couple of hours later, he called the landline and told his 7-year-old daughter, who had answered the phone, to inform her mother that he will return the next day. According to Zohra, that was the last the family had heard of him.

Reportedly, the police had discouraged Razak’s family members from seeing the dead body by stating that it might not be Razak’s body. When the family members finally got a chance to see the body on Saturday in the mortuary of Wenlock Hospital, they were shocked to realize that it was Razak.

Later, the police handed over the body to the family members, who performed his final rights.
